How to use it
- Type a time in the first box as 1:45, 105 (minutes), 1h 45m or 1.75 (hours).
- Both forms show up under the box. The line below says how your input was read, so 1.30 and 1:30 don't get mixed up.
- To add up a day or a week, paste one time per line into the second box (a column copied from a spreadsheet works too).
- Copy the total into your timesheet or invoice. A minus takes time off, like -0:30 for a break.
Questions
- How do I convert minutes to decimal hours?
- Divide the minutes by 60: 45 ÷ 60 = 0.75 hours. For 2:45, convert the minutes and add the whole hours: 2.75.
- What is 15 minutes in decimal?
- 0.25 hours. 30 minutes is 0.5 and 45 minutes is 0.75. The chart below has every minute from 0 to 59.
- How do I convert decimal hours back to hours and minutes?
- Multiply the part after the point by 60. 1.6 hours is 1 hour plus 0.6 × 60 = 36 minutes, so 1:36.
- Is 1.5 hours the same as 1:30?
- Yes, both are an hour and a half. But 1.30 hours is 1 hour 18 minutes, so writing 1.30 for an hour and a half loses 12 minutes.
- Why do timesheets use decimal hours?
- Because you can multiply them by a rate. 7:45 at $80 an hour is awkward by hand; 7.75 × 80 = 620 is one step. That's why payroll and spreadsheets expect decimals.
- Should I round each entry or only the total?
- Round the total. Three 20-minute entries round to 0.33 each, so 0.99, but together they're exactly 1 hour. The list above adds the exact minutes and rounds once, to 2 decimals.
- Does this tool save what I type?
- No. The math runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere or stored. No account either.
